Dynamic Range Dilemma
Many users, like em0t3p, have experienced the extreme volume differences in Dolby Atmos on the PS5. The transition from barely audible to ear-shattering can be jarring, leading to frustration and a preference for the more balanced LPCM option.
Gaming vs. Movies
Discussing the purpose of Dolby Atmos, users like em0t3p question its gaming utility compared to its effectiveness in enhancing movie audio. This perspective raises interesting considerations on whether Dolby Atmos is optimized for certain media.
Soundbar vs. AV Receiver
Exploring different setup configurations, users have compared the Soundbar and AV receiver options. While both offer distinct audio experiences, the consensus leans towards the Soundbar surround setting for a more immersive gaming setup.
“I use LCPM because I can’t stand the massive dynamic range of ps5 Atmos. It goes from whisper quiet to blowing my ears out on the same volume. I got fed up finally and just went to PCM. I’m also not sure how many games utilize the upfiring/phantom speakers, I always assumed Atmos was more for movies. So I have mine set to Soundbar, LCPM. I did try AV receiver 5.1 but found Soundbar surround to work better. (I do have rears)” – [em0t3p](https://www.reddit.com/r/Soundbars/comments/1cv8lm9/ps5_recommended_audio_settings_for_samsung/l4nqh4c/)
